My name is Ruth Barzel, and I personally create all the jewelry you
see on this site, with the help of my fabulous assistant, Halys from
the UK. All of my jewelry is handmade in my studio located in the Washington
DC suburbs, where I also live with my husband, our two children, and
our gecko named Gecky. I love designing and making jewelry more than
anything else in the world, except my family.
And except maybe ice cream.
And except maybe shopping.
My jewelry is made with intermixed sterling silver and gold-filled chain, semiprecious stones, pearls, and cubic zirconia. I use mostly natural components, but when I find something inspiring that’s made by humans instead of nature (like my shell pearls, which I adore), I embrace it. Recently I've also been experimenting with different metals, like antique-plated brass, to give me more flexibility with my designs.
The jewelry comes packaged in elegant custom gift boxes—perfect for gifts!
When I launched my line in 2005, I wasn’t sure how to describe my work. While I was trying to figure that out, people were buying it. My customers kept telling me, “I love your jewelry! I wear it every day.”
Then I realized, that was it. My jewelry isn’t trendy. Or clunky. Or weird. It’s not art. It isn’t so expensive that you’re afraid to wear it (or can’t afford to buy it in the first place) or so cheap that you’re embarrassed to wear it. It’s pretty. It’s feminine. It’s elegant, but also casual. It’s stylish. And it goes with what you’re wearing—right now.
It’s jewelry for every day.
